Royan and its regionA unique history
Royan and the “Côte de beauté” offer remarkable sites ranging from land to sea, architecture to patrimony.
Royan and its region
The town of Royan, a seaside resort of renown, situated between Bordeaux and La Rochelle occupies a privileged natural site along a large fine sandy beach at the entrance of the Gironde estuary. Royan is a town of human dimension which seduces by its beauty and quality of life.
Completely destroyed after the Second World War, it is one of the rare towns, along with Le Havre and Lorient, rebuilt after this tragic event to obtain the label “City of Art and History” awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. Royan’s history makes it an atypical and unique town which amazes by the diversity of its architecture. The 1950’s style merges with the villas of the “Belle-Époque” as a witness to the town’s past. It’s modern and spacious town centre, which opens onto the Atlantic Ocean, is an invitation to relaxation.
